Elegant Headboard
We spend almost a third of our lives in bed, so it makes perfect sense to ensure that this important piece of furniture is as inviting and as comfortable as possible. This Valspar project focuses on achieving a decadent, luxurious feel to your bedroom, making it the perfect place to escape to. What's more you can create the look with minimum effort and without a sky high price tag, ensuring you sleep soundly afterwards.
Headboard (wooden
or metal)
Low tack self-adhesive plastic repositionable
Sandpaper (if necessary)
Newspaper
"Complement your new headboard by adding rich colors to other bedroom items such as lamps and bedside tables. These items could also be made-over with Valspar Spray Paint."
Find an open space and lay down plenty of newspaper to protect the surrounding area. Now take your headboard making sure it is clean and free from dust. If your headboard is old or damaged you should spend some time preparing the surface by sanding any rough areas.
For our headboard we made a mask of a rose. To do this, draw your desired design on the self-adhesive plastic, then carefully cut it out using scissors or a craft knife. This rose mask will be the unpainted area. You may want to research your design at your local library or on the internet. Once you are happy with your mask stick it down to cover the areas you don't want to spray.
Now apply a coat of Valspar Primer White over the entire headboard. Allow 20 minutes drying time. Once the primer has thoroughly dried you can start applying the Valspar Metallic Copper Spray Paint. Several thin coats will give you the best result. We applied two coats but this will be dependent on the surface of your headboard.
Allow 45 minutes drying time then very slowly and carefully remove the mask you applied earlier to reveal the rose design. Lastly attach the headboard to your bed and get creative with soft furnishings and drapes in vibrant opulent colors.
